Step by step
Sustainability management – step by step
The key system elements of sustainability management are:
- a corporate vision geared towards sustainability
- regular sustainability audits to take an inventory and assess the impacts of the company’s sustainability efforts
- an improvement programme derived from the vision and the sustainability audit
- an integrated management system which embeds the aspects of sustainability into structures, processes, training and communication
- a standardised and validated sustainability report
- regular controlling by means of internal and external audits
How much work is required?
The process of introducing the sustainability management system takes between 8 and 12 months. The time required depends upon the capacities of the internal project team and the project management.
Depending on the size of the organisation, a project manager with a time allocation of a half-day to a full day per week is necessary throughout the introduction of the system.
